The senior advisor of the US Department of State, Derek Chollet, said that “Kosovo must fulfill all commitments within the dialogue, including the formation of the Association of municipalities with a Serbian majority”.
This is what he said during a conversation with journalists in Prishtina.
“We believe that we are at a critical moment. We believe that Kosovo and Serbia urgently engage in the dialogue led by the European Union, which is working towards a comprehensive agreement for the normalization of relations focused on mutual recognition”.
Chollet said that the US believes that dialogue is the best tool for Kosovo to secure its full European and Euro-Atlantic future, writes REL.
He said that the US wants to spend its diplomatic energy on working toward Kosovo’s Euro-Atlantic future and that they would like to spend less energy on crisis management.
Chollet also said that their message to Belgrade is that there should be no provocative acts and to work towards de-escalation of the situation.
He also said that US relations with Kosovo “remain very strong”, and that their vision for the country is “a multi-ethnic, independent, sovereign, secure and democratic Kosovo”, adding that they are in favor of full integration of the country in European and Euro-Atlantic structures”
