An individual is confirmed to have contracted the African variant of the COVID-19 virus in Kosovo.

The news was announced by the National Institute of Public Health in Kosovo, which announced that the patient is admitted to the Infective Clinic.

Meanwhile, work has begun on researching the close contacts of the patient, to see if others might have possibly contracted the virus.

“Preventive measures are the same. People that come up positive should stay home in order to prevent the spread of the virus to their families and communities. By bringing down the number of close contacts, the spread of the infection can be interrupted as well,” confirmed the notice published by the National Institute of Public Health.

Similar cases of the mutated variants of the virus have been registered in many countries around the world.

In addition, the epidemiologic situation in Kosovo has improved significantly.

Yesterday, no fatalities due to COVID-19 were reported and only 10 new cases were identified out of a total 2,277 tests.

The list of recoveries was stretched by another 134 patients, bringing the total number since the beginning of the pandemic to 104,188.

The inoculation process continues at a steady pace in Kosovo, as 80.803 doses of the anti-COVID vaccine have been administered to date.
