After the decision of the Court of Rome to suspend the stay in the center of Gjader for the 7 immigrants who arrived a few days ago, they left for Italy on Monday evening.
“The decision of the judges in Rome for the 7 immigrants who have been in the center of Gjader since last Friday has an immediate effect. In the evening, the asylum seekers will be transported to the Coast Guard ship “Visalli” in Brindisi, which they will reach at night after a few hours of travel.
“All 7 immigrants will be transferred to a center for asylum seekers in the territory of Pulja, to undergo the usual procedure of examination of the request,” the decision of the Italian court states.
A previous court decision annulled the detention of the first 12 immigrants in camps built in Albania.
After the court’s decision, the immigrants were transferred to a reception center in Bari, based on European law. Following this decision, the Italian government issued a legal decree revising the list of countries deemed safe for repatriation.
A few days ago, seven young asylum seekers, three from Egypt and five from Bangladesh, were transferred to Albania within an accelerated procedure. One of them returned to Italy due to health problems found after the medical examination.
