The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development confirmed that it has detected the presence of avian flu in the country.
The Institute for Food Security and Veterinary took in some samples, which tested positive for the H5N8 strain.
So far, three outbreaks have been recorded; Fushe Kruja, Dajt, and Bujan.
A National Crises Center was established near the institute tasked to coordinate the next steps.
The veterinary service announced that it has culled the infected poultry as well as taken measures to prevent a further spread of influenza.
In light of the situation, the agriculture minister issued an order banning the trade of poultry in outdoor markets, while allowing only the sale of products certified by veterinarians.
The Ministry of Agriculture reiterated that poultry products do not carry any risk to the consumer’s health, however urged citizens to respect food safety rules, including using high temperatures when cooking poultry.
