Albanians spend most of their income just to feed themselves.
The World Food Organization has calculated that a person in Albania needs to spend 4.4 USD per day for food to meet the needs of a normal diet.
This makes Albania rank first in the region and 28th globally, for the high costs of the daily food diet.
Jamaica is the first country in the world for the highest cost of living at $7.7 per person, while Great Britain has the lowest cost at just $2 per person per day.
According to experts, the food cost index in Albania is high, due to low wages and high prices, which in some products are even higher than in EU countries.
Food prices in Albania are 83.7% of the European Union average, the third most expensive in the region, after Serbia with 89.7% and Montenegro with 85.8%. The cheapest in the region are the prices in North Macedonia, with 68.2% of the EU average.
