9100 Albanian citizens have applied for asylum in one of the countries of the European Union during 2023.

Measured in population ratio, there are 330 requests per 100,000 inhabitants, with a much higher gap than the global average of interest in living in Europe, which results in 17 applications per 100,000 inhabitants.

Data from Eurostat show that Albania was third in the world for applications in relation to the population. Before Albanians is ranked Syria with 870 requests per 100 thousand inhabitants and Georgia with 670.

Compared to previous years, the requests have been smaller in number, but for social-economic reasons, the inclination to go to a more developed country remains high.

After us, North Macedonia ranks fourth, with 230 applications per 100,000 inhabitants, and further, in the region, comes Kosovo, in 12th place with 160 requests.

France and Germany remain the most preferred countries for Albanians to seek asylum, with more than 60% of the number of requests.
