Prime Minister Edi Rama and Minister of Defense Pirro Vengu signed the launch of a cooperation between the Italian company “Fincantieri” and the Albanian company “KAYO” for a joint venture in the naval military industry. They also signed a Letter of Intent for the transfer of the patrol vessel “Libra” for use by the Albanian Naval Force.

“We are working to create important synergy between the two shores of the Adriatic in order to move forward and further transform this old friendship with Italy into something good for both our peoples. We live in challenging times—challenges that just a few years ago we couldn’t have imagined. It is clear that we must unite everything we can—no matter how big or small—because what matters is the achievement. This cooperation with Italy becomes more strategic and more significant, tying the interests of our two countries closer together. I want to especially thank the Italian military team for their dedication and continued support—this time not on land, but at sea,” said Prime Minister Edi Rama.

Italian Minister of Defense Guido Crosetto stated that relations between Albania and Italy are currently experiencing a very positive phase and that this relationship will continue to grow stronger.

“We live in difficult times, and nations must understand the need to work more closely together. Starting today, we will increase the level of our cooperation, which will only grow stronger under the leadership of Prime Minister Rama and Prime Minister Meloni, as we aim to strengthen collaboration across all sectors,” said Crosetto.

Alongside the “Libra” vessel, two other ships also docked at the Port of Durrës on Tuesday morning.

The official ceremony was held aboard the historic ship “Amerigo Vespucci,” renowned as one of the most beautiful ships in the world, known for its impressive silhouette and traditional sails.

“Vespucci is an embassy—an embassy of Italian maritime culture, but also of the broader ‘Made in Italy’ spirit. It carries around the world an idea of excellence, beauty, and quality, and reflects the team spirit that characterizes its crew, and above all, the spirit with which Italy is present here,” said Marco Alberti, Italian Ambassador to Albania.

The Albanian Naval Force officially took delivery of the “Libra” patrol vessel, which is expected to strengthen maritime security.

“This ship has solid operational capabilities, is compatible with NATO capacities, and will serve not only for missions related to security and peace within Albania’s maritime space, but also in the Mediterranean where NATO missions may require our participation. It represents an enhanced capability,” stated Rear Admiral Adnand Agastra.

Another ship anchored in the Port of Durrës is the catamaran “Lo Spirito di Stella.”
The “Amerigo Vespucci,” returning to Durrës after more than two years, will remain open to visitors for three days, while the “Libra” will remain in port until April 21.
