In the Albanian army, which consists of 8,500 active-duty personnel, an additional 2,100 reservists will be mobilized.
The current security needs and the climate of tension following Russia’s military occupation of Ukraine, are prompting the Ministry of Defense to reorganize the military.
In the new draft law under consultation, it is proposed that not only former soldiers but also civilians be included in the reserve forces.
These civilians will undergo annual training sessions lasting from 15 to 45 days, and in special cases, even longer.
The draft law also specifies the age limit for individuals to be recruited, as well as the authorities and offices responsible for mobilizing these individuals.
This law carries significant financial implications. The initial cost estimated for the activation of 2,100 individuals will be around 1.5 billion Albanian lek, with an average mobilization cost for an annual period of 40 days totaling 830 million Albanian lek. Therefore, the Ministry of Defense will seek to allocate around 2.3 billion Albanian lek for reserve personnel.
