Albania is among the countries that have the highest number of school dropouts among youth people. The reason for dropping out of school is related to emigration.

In Albania, the number of students who have dropped out of school is the highest in the region. According to a recent study by the Regional Cooperation Council, it is noted that almost 17%, of the 18-24 age group, were neither in education nor training. A very high percentage, compared to young people aged 20 years, in Europe. Albania ranked first and after it comes Bosnia, with 4.7% of young people without education, followed by Montenegro with 6.7% and then with North Macedonia with 4.6% and Serbia ranked last with 6.2%.

One of the main reasons for dropping out of school is emigration. With the school banks being emptied, the level of education is also declining. Although efforts have been made, again emigration has higher figures.

Another disturbing factor is the fact that youth people who live in Albania, are not even becoming part of the courses or trainings. This figure had a slight decrease in 2021, not only in Albania but in the entire Western Balkans, but still the figures continue to be worrying.

In the EU, only 13% of young people aged 15-29 are neither at work, nor in school, nor in any training.
