Albania has been elected Vice-President of the 75th session of United Nations General Assembly.

Albania’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Besiana Kadare, was congratulated for this achievement by Albanian President, Ilir meta.

“The appointing of Albania as Vice-President for the 75th Session of the UN General Assembly is a great opportunity for a decent representation of our country in this important global institution”, the President said.

Besiana Kadare, daughter of one of Albania’s best-known writers, Ismail Kadare, announced the election on her social networks.

“It’s a distinct honor to serve as VP of this historical session and I’m looking forward to working with Ambassador Volkan Bozkir, the newly elected President of General Assembly from Turkey”, Kadare wrote on her Facebook profile.

“It’s such a privilege and a tremendous responsibility to serve my country in this important post, with great visibility on the international arena. Each regional group in the UN is represented with a Vice-President in the General Assembly. Albania will represent the Eastern European Group (members of EEG include the Balkans, Eastern Europe, Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Azerbaidjan, Armenia etc.)”, Kadare stated.
