Albanian Candidate Selection Committee for “Oscars 2023” approved

The National Center of Cinematography (NCC) has announced that the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) has given its approval for the Albanian Candidate Selection Committee in the “International Feature Film” category for the upcoming 96th Oscar Awards.

The committee, responsible for choosing Albania’s representative in the 96th Oscar Awards in the “International Feature Film” category, consists of Arben Lami, who serves as the committee’s chairperson, along with Gerta Qurku, Genc Përmeti, Eno Milkani, and Florenc Papas.

Notably, the National Center of Cinematography had previously extended an invitation to Albanian film production houses to submit their works for consideration as the Albanian nominee in the 96th Oscar Awards ceremony, scheduled to take place on March 10, 2024, under the auspices of The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

Films in various genres, including artistic, documentary, and animated, are eligible for participation.

The selection criteria are as follows:

  • Films must have a duration of over 40 minutes;
  • Premieres of the films in Albania should have occurred no earlier than December 1, 2022, and no later than October 31, 2023;
  • The films must have had or will have a commercial theatrical release in Albanian cinemas within the specified timeframe, lasting for at least 7 consecutive days;
  • Films must include at least 50% of their dialogue in the Albanian language;
  • Films should be produced with the involvement of at least 50% Albanian actors and staff.
