Those children in the photo are in the sixth grade, from the village of Idrizove in Skopje. They were supposed to be at school at this time, but they are studying with the parents of the Seferi family from home already 23 days in a row. They are not allowed to study in Albanian which is their mother tongue, in a nearest school with the Macedonian majority.
The children are angry by the unclear situation and want to return to school as soon as possible.
Parents want to stop the same circle in which all the children of this village have entered and they no longer accept promises for a new school. They want temporary parallels in Albanian until the construction of an Albanian school.
“We have not yet received any response from the authorities except that the minister is expected to take over the powers of the municipality. Or the Mayor of the Municipality should decide that the children continue their education at the “Njegosh” school, says Rizvan Seferi, from the Idrizovo parents’ council.
Macedonian parents and students have also been irritated by the demands of Albanian parents and have warned of protests and boycott of classes. While the municipality of Gazi Baba has given a firm position that there will be no Albanian parallels at the level above the sixth grade in Albanian, despite the fact that the Education Inspectorate has concluded that there is room for the opening of additional Albanian parallels.
