In Albania, production has declined across all sectors except for construction. The latest INSTAT statistics for the last quarter of 2024 indicate a significant drop in industry, energy, and waste management.
In the industrial sector, net sales fell by 14.4%, while production volume dropped by 13.7%. Similarly, the number of employees and the wage fund decreased by 6.5% and 1.9%, respectively.
Energy production experienced a 0.8% decline in sales and a 13.5% decrease in volume, while employment shrank by 6%. The only increase was recorded in the wage fund, which grew by 4%.
Meanwhile, construction remains the only productive sector showing growth. By the end of 2024, sales increased by 2.7%, production volume by 1.9%, and employment by 1.8%. Additionally, the wage fund for this sector rose by 16.9%.
In the services sector, the outlook is more positive. Wholesale and retail trade grew by 4%, transport and storage by 12.8%, while bars and restaurants saw a 12.8% increase in sales and a 7.8% rise in employment.
The technology and information sector also expanded, with an 8.7% rise in both sales and employment, while tourism and travel agencies experienced a 12.7% increase in employment and an almost 20% growth in the wage fund.
With declining production and expanding services, the Albanian economy is moving towards a structure where the service sector is becoming increasingly dominant.
