Energy production decreased in the third quarter. From July to September, 1,565 Gigawatts were produced from hydropower plants and panels, with a 3% decrease compared to last year.
For this reason, the quantity purchased to cover the needs in the country was higher.
Specifically, the system imported 762 GWh from the 755 GWh it produced in the same period a year ago and sold abroad 282 gigawatts, or 38% less than last year. So, with the negative exchange balance of 480 GWh and with the average prices of the period, Albania has lost around 67 million euros.
This quarter that coincides with the summer season, and consumption needs increase from citizens and businesses. The data shows that overall consumption increased by 7%.
Albania does not manage to cover its energy needs, as production is dependent on climatic conditions. In order to create energy independence, Albania is investing in solar and wind energy, and this is also evident from the progressive increase in production brought by these parks.
