A seminar on Albanian language, literature and culture is being held in Kosovo these days. Researchers raise the concern that the institutions in Kosovo and Albania are not doing enough to preserve the language.
The 41st edition of the International Seminar on Albanian Language, Literature and Culture is being held in Pristina.
More than 100 researchers and students from all over the world have come to Pristina to learn about Albanian language.
The main topics of this edition are “Albania in danger” and “Albanian literature and interculturalism”.
According to the organizers of this seminar, this event has a great impact and extends to several areas.
“The seminar enables cultural exchanges in other countries and cultures, enables cultural representation of Alabanology in the world. The second influence is educational and study, most of the departments of Albanian and Balkan studies in the world are directed and guided by former students of this seminary. The third influence is the integrative one, the creation of contacts with institutions and individuals”, said Bardh Rugova, director of the seminar.
At the opening of this important event for the Albanian language and culture, the British ambassador to Kosovo, Nicholas Abbott, also spoke.
“This language is facing the threat of extinction, as due to modernity and global connections, it often remains in the shadows,” said Nicholas Abbott, ambassador of the United Kingdom in Kosovo.
At the opening of the seminar, where representatives of the government were also present, there was criticism of the institutions for not doing enough to preserve the Albanian language.
The International Seminar for Albanian Language, Literature and Culture was founded in 1974 by the Faculty of Philology at the University of Pristina.
