A 39-year-old Albanian woman who was stabbed by her husband in Italy has been discharged from the hospital and has reunited with her 5-year-old son.
Italian media report that Tefta Malaj has received numerous threats from her husband’s family, following a serious spat between the couple that ended in tragedy with the couple’s daughter, 16-year-old Xhesika being murdered by her own father.
Husband Taulant Malaj also murdered 51-year-old neighbor Massimo De Santis in his home in Torremaggiore, under suspicions that he was having an affair with his wife.
De Santis’ brother clarified to Italian media that the deceased had no extramarital affair with the 39-year-old woman and that the two families kept amicable and respectful, neighborly relations between them.
The massacre shook public opinion in Italy and Albania, as Taulant Malaj stabbed Massimo De Santis 21 times in his home in Torremaggiore and filmed the scene earlier this month, before returning to his own unit where he stabbed his daughter to death. His wife, Tefta sustained injuries during Taulant’s rage fit, while the couple’s younger son escaped unharmed by hiding behind a sofa.
Taulant Malaj, originally from the city of Vlora, admitted to the crime and is now imprisoned.
Citizens of Torremaggiore and the lawyer helping Tefta’s case, Michele Sodrio have launched an awareness and fundraising campaign to help the 39-year-old woman and her infant son, given the fact that she is being threatened by her husband’s family and cannot return home to the apartment where her daughter was murdered.
