Kosovo’s Presidency bestowed Kosovar citizenship upon the renowned Albanian writer, Ismail Kadare.

President Vjosa Osmani personally signed the citizenship decree for Kadare during a ceremony on Tuesday. She expressed her admiration for the literary icon, stating that the honor of granting citizenship to such a distinguished creator, whose works have continuously resonated with Albanians worldwide, is a source of pride for the state of Kosovo.

President Osmani further highlighted the immense contribution of Ismail Kadare to Albanian culture, language, and tradition through his exceptional literary output. She emphasized that the Republic of Kosovo and its citizens feel genuinely honored by the presence of this illustrious figure within their nation.

This prestigious recognition follows another significant accolade for Ismail Kadare, as he was awarded the “Hasan Prishtina” order, an esteemed distinction granted by the Kosovo Presidency to exceptional individuals in the fields of culture, art, and society.

With a literary career spanning several decades, Ismail Kadare has created masterpieces like “Broken April”, “Chronicle in Stone”, “The Castle”, and “The General of the Dead Army”, captivating readers worldwide. His unparalleled talent has garnered numerous international literary awards, firmly establishing him as one of the most celebrated figures in Albanian literature.

Notably, Kadare has also been repeatedly mentioned as a possible candidate for the prestigious Nobel Prize in Literature, further solidifying his global acclaim.
