The Deputy Prime Minister of Montenegro and Minister of Economic Development, Nik Gjeloshaj, on behalf of the Albanians in Montenegro, has sent a letter to the ambassadors of European Union countries in Podgorica, requesting that representatives of this minority be guaranteed seats in the Montenegrin Parliament.
The letter emphasizes that Albanians in Montenegro constitute an autochthonous national and linguistic minority, the only non-Slavic community, which has contributed to the country’s development and identity for centuries.
The Albanian Forum announced that it has sent the letter to the embassies of all 27 EU member states, the EU Delegation in Montenegro, as well as to the ambassadors of partner countries — the United States, the United Kingdom, Albania, and Kosovo — regarding “one of the key issues of Montenegro’s democratic development: ensuring adequate and sustainable political representation for minority peoples, particularly for the Albanian community.”
