The relations between the government of Kosovo and the USA are not at the level that the latter would like. This is what the American ambassador, Jeffry Hovenier, declared on Wednesday, saying that he wants to clarify a situation that some consider confusing.

“It is important to clarify an issue that some have told us is confusing. Many of you have seen reports in the media about some differences between the United States and other members of the international community with some actions and political choices of the Government of Kosovo led by Albin Kurti. As I said in an interview last week, we are facing certain challenges with the current Government of Kosovo and these challenges have absolutely affected the quality of our partnership”, said Hovenier.

He quoted American government officials and the orders they had for Prime Minister Albin Kurti, so that these relations can be put back on track.

“As the spokesperson said this month: The US government hopes that the Government of Kosovo will return to close and constructive engagement with the US, the EU, NATO and other close international partners of Kosovo,” said Hovenier.

However, Hovenier reiterated that disagreements with the government do not reflect the commitment of the US to the people of Kosovo.

“Some areas of cooperation with the current government of Kosovo remain less positive than we would have hoped, the commitment of the USA to the people of Kosovo remains as strong and iron as ever. Today’s event and the conclusion of an agreement to provide nearly $34.5 million in additional development funding to the people of Kosovo to support economic growth, good governance and EU integration, I believe clearly underlines this goal. However, I have to admit that this dedication to the people of Kosovo does not necessarily apply to any particular government or to any particular government’s actions and political choices”, said the US ambassador.

He made these comments in a statement to the media after signing an agreement between Kosovo and USAID, from which the citizens of the country will benefit from a fund of 34.5 million dollars.
