Today, leaders of the Western Balkan countries will meet in Vienna to attend the Western Balkans Summit.

The event was organized by Chancellor of Austrian Sebastian Kurz who said on Twitter that among participants will also be: the EU Special Envoy at the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue Miroslav Lajcak, Serbian PM Ana Brnabic, North Macedonia’s PM Zoran Zaev, Montenegrin PM Zdravko Krivokapic, Infrastructure Minister Belinda Balluku and Zoran Tegeltija from Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Kurz underlined that the European Union “cannot be complete” without the Western Balkans.

“The EU is not complete until all the Western Balkans have acceded. You can rely on our full support in the reforms required for this and in the fight against the pandemic. We will also emphasize this at today’s Western Balkans Summit”, wrote the Austrian Chancellor on Twitter.

Furthermore, he added that another topic that will be taken up is illegal migration.

“I thank the Western Balkans and Greece for protecting the borders, which Austria also supports with police officers. At the Western Balkans Summit, we reaffirm the common fight against illegal migration. This is very important, especially before the coming summer”, Kurz said.

Western Balkans leaders met also last week in Tirana to discuss the Berlin process while, EU Commissioner for Neighborhood and Enlargement, Oliver Varhelyi, reiterate the importance of regional cooperation.
