Three people were assassinated in the northern city of Shkoder on Wednesday, sending shockwaves through the country. Some 20 people have been taken in for questioning but no one has been arrested so far. The interior minister Ervin Hoxha reassured the public that the perpetrators would be found soon.
Following the shocking assassination in Shkoder, inhabitants of the city have been protesting on Thursday. A tribute took place in the city center while Democratic Party leader Sali Berisha, announced a protest on Saturday to show solidarity with the victims and their families.
Opposition MPs who were excluded from parliament due to their involvement in setting fire to chairs on the institutions steps some weeks ago, have staged a protest in front of the building. They accuse the majority of violating the regulation for parliamentary life. The Guard of the Republic prevented them from entering the building.
The European Union’s ambassador to Albania, Silvio Gonzato submitted the Report for 2024 to the government. Gonzato declares that the country’s journey to the EU must include political dialogue as boycotts and violence in the Assembly do not serve Albania’s goals. Prime Minister Edi Rama says that he cannot negotiate when the opposition only uses forceful tactics.
Italian Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, said that she has received death threats related to the migrant agreement with Albania. In an interview with the Italian media, Meloni says that despite the reactions against her, and legal difficulties in domestic courts, she will continue to implement it.
