Today, the electoral campaign for the May 11 elections officially began. There are 11 entities competing, including parties and coalitions. For the first time, the campaign will also take place abroad, with the vote of the diaspora. The Electoral Code provides in detail the role of the media during the campaign, where parties, throughout 30 days, must be given equal broadcasting time, while journalists must not hold biased positions. Fines are foreseen for violations.

Former President Ilir Meta has ended his marriage to MP and former leader of the SMI, Monika Kryemadhi. The Tirana Court today formalized the dissolution of the 27-year marriage between the two well-known politicians.

Wrestler Chermen Valiev won the gold medal in wrestling for Albania on Thursday. During the medal ceremony, the athlete of Russian origin was publicly insulted by the President of the Russian Wrestling Federation, who called him a traitor. Valiev told the media that he was shocked by this behavior, as well as by the fact that the relevant institutions have not taken measures.

In Kosovo, the institutions responsible for the distribution of energy have decided to increase the price by 16%. Protests were held by citizens in Pristina today against this decision. Consumer protection organizations have warned of lawsuits against the institutions.
