Albania, the United Arab Emirates and Italy have signed a cooperation agreement on renewable energy. The agreement foresees investment in an underwater energy distribution network with Italy in the Adriatic Sea, as well as investments in energy resources.
326 observers from the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) will monitor the national elections in Albania in 11 May. 300 of them will be on a short-term mission. In an assessment report for Albania, the ODIHR says that the main problems before the elections are the use of state resources, the media and the implementation of electoral law.
Albanian pensioners have staged a protest in front of the prime ministers office in Tirana. They demand an increase in pensions and say recent government one off bonuses are not sufficient. The average pension in Albania is around 160 euros, a figure that does not cover basic monthly expenses.
Tributes and memorial ceremonies were held in Kosovo today for the victims of the Recak Massacre. 26 years ago in the village of Recak, Serbian military forces killed and massacred 45 innocent citizens including women and children. This event sounded the alarm worldwide regarding the genocide being committed against Albanians. Relatives of the victims stated that justice has not yet been done for the crimes.
