The Head of the Special Prosecution (SPAK), Altin Dumani, welcomed the Head of the Federal Prosecution of Belgium, Ann Fransen, the Federal Prosecutor, in charge of the section in the fight against crime, Geert Schoorens, as well as a delegation of Belgian prosecutors during their two-day visit to Albania. They discussed the joint commitment to raise cooperation in the fight against organized crime to higher levels.
The head of SPAK emphasized the commitment of the Special Prosecutor’s Office to strengthen international cooperation, especially with European law enforcement agencies, for the investigation of complex cases involving both Albania and Belgium. Fransen appreciated the high level of cooperation with SPAK and underlined the preservation of this standard of communication between institutions, emphasizing the sharing of information and the development of joint investigations, to face the challenges presented by organized crime in both countries.

In separate meetings with other prosecutors of the Special Prosecutor’s Office, mechanisms for speeding up communication between the two parties and for a proactive approach to real-time data exchange were also discussed, increasing efficiency in mutual legal assistance. Discussions focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation in the fight against organized crime, drug trafficking and money laundering.
This meeting marks an important step of SPAK in fulfilling its objectives by creating a positive perspective for cooperation between Albanian and Belgian authorities in the fight against organized crime, drug trafficking and money laundering. With this new level of engagement and support from European law enforcement agencies, SPAK is significantly increasing its capacities in the fight against organized crime in Albania and the countries of the European Union.
