The American ambassador in Skopje, Angela Aggeler, declared on Tuesday that Washington is interested in seeing North Macedonia in the European Union (EU).
Aggeler expressed hope for positive developments in the talks between North Macedonia and Bulgaria, stressing the importance of the success of these negotiations for the future of the country.
“I will say what we have said before in Washington and in Skopje… We would very much like to see North Macedonia within the European Union and we hope that the discussions will be successful and fruitful, because the future is prosperous, successful and the safe place of this country is within the EU, it is in the heart of Europe, where it belongs”, said Aggeler.
Ambassador Aggeler made these comments shortly before the start of a lecture with the students of the University of Southeast Europe (SEEUL) in Tetovo.
Meanwhile, the Prime Minister of North Macedonia, Hristijan Mickoski, who is currently in Brussels, at the EU-Western Balkans summit, has said that “he is going to present the same positions as the country’s government” regarding the dispute with Bulgaria, respectively for unlocking the process of membership in the European family.
However, he expects that the new composition of the European Commission (EC) will have additional information from his recent visit to Brussels.
Mickoski added that the current solution is only to unlock the first step, while his government is looking for a long-term solution.
