The Archbishop of Albania, Anastas Janullatos, passed away this Saturday, January 25, at the age of 95, after a long period of hospitalization and a critical health condition.

Janullatos died in Athens, at the “Evangelismos” hospital, where he was receiving treatment following severe health complications.

The Holy Synod of the Greek Orthodox Church announced that the body of Archbishop Anastas will lie in state at the Athens Cathedral until the morning of Monday, January 27. On Sunday, a Divine Liturgy will be held in his honor at this cathedral.

The Archbishop’s body is expected to be transported by land to Albania on Tuesday, where the tribute ceremony will take place at the “Resurrection of Christ” Cathedral in Tirana.

Janullatos suffered a gastric hemorrhage, and after several days of treatment at a private hospital in Tirana, his health condition worsened, necessitating his transfer to Athens on January 3 via an Air Force plane.

Despite medical efforts and the intensive care he received, his condition deteriorated daily due to the failure of several organs to function properly.
