During his analysis of the April elections on Euronews Albania’s ‘Ilva Now’, journalist Ben Andoni gave light to several conclusions that according to him have contributed to the loss of the opposition in the parliamentary elections.
According to him, the Socialist Party was able to compensate for the discontents of its own electorate, by taking the pragmatist electorate of SMI.
Whereas regarding the Democratic Party, he said that it has made great mistakes by not participating in the territorial reform or in the local elections. He also added that DP has great gaps in its organizational skills in comparison to SP.
“They [SP] are since now, predicting the local elections if the Constitutional Court will overturn them, even partially. Something like this doesn’t happen at DP, it takes too much time. It is an unforgivable mistake to not participate in the territorial reform, even though DP possesses excellent experts, it’s unimaginable,” said Andoni.
The journalist continued by saying that there were also unclarities in the collaboration with SMI, as the base of DP has suffered from the behavior of this political force in the elections of 2013, where SMI formed a coalition with SP.
“It is unimaginable for the base, which has suffered SMI’s behavior on its own shoulder and for them to now swallow such an extreme U-turn. At this very moment, SMI’s votes has supplied SP much more than DP,” he said.
By taking a good number of votes from SMI, SP according to Andoni, was able to keep the results it had in 2017’s electoral year.
“SP suffered a great loss of approval in Durres and Tirana, but it recuperated through SMI as its electorate is a pragmatist one. The blow suffered by SMI in these elections is irrecuperable,” concluded Andoni.
