A Russian citizen identified as Aleksander Bobovnikov, 57 years old, was arrested by the Albanian police in Rinas airport.
He was wanted by the Russian state for the crime of fraud. Earlier, he was detained in Florence, but the Italian court has banned extradition due to the political nature of the case for which he was wanted in his country.
Bobovnikov says he came to Albania to celebrate his birthday with his German friends. It is learned that Bobovnikov, a neurosurgeon by profession, has spoken earlier against the war in Ukraine by Russia and against the power of the Kremlin.
This Thursday at 12:00 a.m. the session for the assessment of the security measure will take place in the Court of Tirana. The 67-year-old also has an Israeli passport. The countries of the European Union have rejected his arrest, while currently it remains to be seen what will be the attitude of the Albanian justice system.
