In the report of the Antimafia Investigation Directorate (DIA), it is said that Albanian criminal organizations constitute a high risk and a significant presence in illegal activities, in particular in drug trafficking.

This report has analyzed the situation for the first 6 months of 2023.

“It is about well-structured groups and based on solidarity between them, as they are based on family ties”, the report underlines.

According to the report, the Albanian organizations are also well adapted at the international level, as they are able to negotiate directly with the South American cartels, in the countries that produce large quantities of cocaine.

“Many anti-drug operations carried out in various Italian regions have also proven their action in synergy with indigenous criminality,” the Antimafia document continues.

It is further added that, these organizations with international capacities transport from the Albanian shores to the Italian territory, through rafts and other floating means, migrants of different ethnicities, mainly Iranian, Pakistani, Iraqi, Egyptian, Syrian and Afghan.

In this type of traffic, the preferred axis remains the Otranto Canal, the report concludes.
