The Ambassador of the United States to Albania, Yuri Kim, reiterated her appeal calling on authorities to guarantee the rules to have free and democratic elections.
Reminder: It is absolutely critical for authorities to ensure that the rules and terms of the election are – in fact and in perception – fair, timely, and transparent. Anything less would be a disservice to voters and a step back for democracy.

She said that if the conditions and rules are not respected, the ones to be harmed will be the citizens as well as the democracy itself.
With only 22 days left to the parliamentary elections, Albanian voters still do not know how the ballot paper will look like because political parties are disagreeing on the model that will be used.
More specifically, the Socialists want candidates to be identified through digits, while the Democrats with names.
The matter at hand will find a solution by the Electoral Code after the Democratic Party appealed the decision of the Commission of Appeals and Sanctions (CAS) that sided with the Socialist Party on the model of the ballot paper.
