In the Archaeological Park of Antigonea in the district of Gjirokastra during the month of September, an Albanian-Italian archaeological expedition is underway.

The underground of this archaeological site constantly holds surprises for historians and researchers, which makes ancient Antigonea always more attractive for archaeological research. Albanian and Italian archaeologists are bringing to light the areas and objects of antiquity, bringing new evidence for this civilization from the most developed of that period in the Drino Valley.

Antigonea was founded in the 4th century BC. It is the ancient city with the largest area in Albania.

The most complete archaeological excavations that have identified the name and history of the city have been carried out and led by renowned archaeologist Dhimosten Budina. In 2005, Antigonea won the government status “Archaeological Park” from the government, turning into an attractive attraction for tourism.
