There is still no official timeline in regards to the Afghan citizens arriving to Albania.
Euronews Albania correspondent, Elona Gjylmi reported from Rinas airport that Albanian authorities still haven’t given an exact number in terms of how many Afghans will be arriving today and in coming days.
The recent chaotic developments at the Kabul airport caused the delays at the Kabul airport.
Meanwhile, the Albanian army has raised several tents that will serve as physical and health check-up sites for the Afghan citizens arriving at Rinas.
The foreign minister, Olta Xhacka is also present at the airport and is now leading the Task-Force set up specifically by the government for the Afghan refugees.
Work is continuing as usual at the airport and there is no increase in the number of police officers on site.
After their arrival, the Afghan citizens will be housed at ‘Student City’, where the University Student dorms are located and later on, there are plans for some of them moving to several hotels in Durres.
Albania accepted the request made by the United States to temporarily shelter Afghan refugees fleeing from the Taliban, out of fear that their lives are in danger due to their collaboration with American and other Western forces during the War in Afghanistan.
