The Albanian Assembly has decided to revoke a controversial decision where it denied journalists to have access to parliamentary committee activities.

A memo signed by the Speaker of the Assembly, Gramoz Ruçi, approved the 5 points demanded by several journalist associations on the way that relations with the media should be.

Therefore, the Assembly will once again allow journalists and camera crew to be physically present during the sessions of various parliamentary committees.

Also, the Albanian Assembly is backing down on another point which suggested that reporters are escorted inside the premises by military personnel.

In addition, journalists will be allowed to use cell phones, but interviews will only be conducted in a pre-determined media room.

Several weeks ago, the Albanian Parliament came out with a set of new rules, including taking away media rights in providing live coverage during plenary sessions. The decision sparked a strong debate between journalists and media groups.
