The head of the European Union’s foreign policy, Josep Borrell, has reacted to the attack on an EULEX observation patrol in the north of Kosovo.
Through a post on social networks, Borrell states that the European Union will not tolerate attacks against EULEX or the use of violent criminal acts in the north. He called for the removal of the barricades and for avoiding the escalation of the situation.
“The European Union will not tolerate attacks against EULEX in Kosovo or the use of violent criminal acts in the north. The barricades must be removed immediately by the Kosovo Serb groups. Calm must be restored. EULEX will continue to coordinate with Kosovo authorities and KFOR. All actors must avoid escalation,” Borrell tweeted.
The European Union’s Mission for the Rule of Law in Kosovo, EULEX, has confirmed that a bomb was thrown at an observation patrol on Saturday evening, near Rudara, in the municipality of Zveçan.
EULEX announced that no officer of the Specialized Police Unit was injured and no material damage was caused, but it called such attacks unacceptable. Among other things, EULEX announced that it will continue its work for maintaining stability in Kosovo and for the safety of citizens
