“Early detection of breast cancer saves lives; it’s worth living.”

With this message, the head of the primary care department in Saranda, Robert Mavro, wants to make women and girls aware of mammography. As part of “Pink October”, the campaign started at the beginning of this month.

“This month we sensitized all the institutions where there are women, but also men, because it is not a disease of only women. 95% are women, but there are also men. “For the diagnosis of breast cancer in time, the secret is early detection, as delays always lead to fatalities,” said Mavro.

The highest interest in breast control is shown by those over 45 years old.

“The entire community of women has been sensitized. We have now started to receive names and numbers from women over 45 years old for the interest in mammography,” he said.

According to the specialist doctor, the pandemic somehow affected the decrease in interest, due to the fear and panic it spread among the citizens.

“We have been installing mammography at the ‘Petro Nako’ hospital in Saranda for over 4 years, and since the time of the pandemic, when the number was relatively low, up to 80 for two weeks, and until 2023, when we reached up to 150 , that is, its double,” said the head of the Primary Care Department.

Pink October is dedicated to raising awareness among women and girls to prevent or fight breast cancer.
