The Bank of Albania has unveiled its latest commemorative coin, issued in honor of the institution’s 100th anniversary.
Valued at 100 lek, the coin will not be legal tender and has been created exclusively to mark this historic milestone.
On the obverse side, the coin features the Bank of Albania’s 100th anniversary logo, along with key dates highlighting the history of central banking in Albania.
The reverse side depicts two symbolic figures:
a young boy in traditional Central Albanian attire, inspired by the image used on Albania’s first banknote from 1926, and the poet and patriot Asdreni, whose portrait also appears on the modern 10,000 lek banknote.
During the centennial ceremony, Governor Gent Sejko emphasized that this non-circulating coin honors the institutional memory of the Bank and inspires confidence in the future.
This is not the first time the Bank of Albania has produced such a piece.
Since 1926, the Bank has issued commemorative coins to celebrate events and personalities that have shaped the nation’s history.
