Bankers Petroleum Albania, the largest oil company in the country, reports that only during 2023, about 4 million dollars have been invested in improving the environment in the Patos-Marinza oil field.
The investment of this figure by the company was made in order to protect the environment through a significant reduction of vehicle transport around the operational area, but also investments in the treatment of hydrocarbon waste.
Bankers Petroleum reports that investments during 2023 have focused on energy efficiency.

Technological improvement has led to a significant reduction in the cost of energy for each ton produced. A development that has influenced the reduction of the negative impact on the environment.
“During the past year, our energy consumption rate reached 0.62 gigajoules per ton of production, marking one of the best performances since it is almost half of the European environmental performance indicator described in the latest IOGP (International Oil and Gas Producers) report, which is 1.16 gigajoules per ton,” Bankers officially confirms.
There have been significant improvements in terms of greenhouse gases.
“By making emissions transparent in all areas, Bankers demonstrates its comprehensive approach to greenhouse gas management and its commitment to reducing its environmental footprint throughout its operations,” say official sources.

The Bankers Company also reuses and recycles used materials to maximize their value and minimize landfill waste.
“Reusing and recycling materials into products and services to maximize value from them and minimize waste to landfill is essential to our sustainability. In this regard we are treating waste oil sludge in the cement kiln, which serves as a partial energy input to the process, we are developing projects to reduce energy use and investing in a project for the treatment of oil sludge to recover oil from waste,” Bankers announces.
According to official data, currently the company has brought the transportation of oil by road to 0, while the transportation of goods and various materials necessary for hydrocarbon operations has been halved since 2015.

The improvement of technology, recycling, treatment of hydrocarbon waste and reduction of land transport have influenced the protection of the environment in Patos-Marinza.
The company informs that the standards set by it are required to be applied by contractors and subcontractors.
“We have set a high standard for HSE in our operations that go beyond legal obligations, and we require all our contractors and subcontractors to work to our standard! We strive to adopt person-centred approaches in everything we do, and recognize the value of our employees, treat them as assets and invest in them. We strive to create the conditions and promote decent work for our workers – our human capital – that supports our performance and sustainability as a business,” Bankers underlines.
