New loans granted by the banking sector in December of the past year reached approximately 62.3 billion lekë, or about €640 million, marking the highest monthly level recorded not only in 2025 but also over a longer multi-year period. Compared to December 2024, new lending was around 30% higher.
Broken down by category, business lending reached nearly €510 million, reflecting an annual increase of about 32%.
Lending to individuals also showed positive performance. During December, new loans for this segment rose to approximately €130 million, indicating that demand for consumer loans and household financing remains strong, particularly toward the end of the year.
A significant share of individual lending continues to be housing loans. In December alone, new loans for home purchases reached around €57 million. In total, throughout 2025, banks approved approximately €660 million in home purchase loans for individuals.
Overall, during the entire year 2025, the banking sector disbursed about €4.5 billion in new loans, of which €3.1 billion went to businesses. Compared to 2024, when new lending totaled €3.8 billion, the annual growth for 2025 is estimated at around 15%.
