The Chair of the Democratic Party, Lulzim Basha reacted to PM Edi Rama’s statements during his attendance at the ‘Prespa Forum’, regarding the accession of negotiations with the European Union.
Through a post on his personal social media account, the leader of the democrats raised the claim that the ‘corrupted autocrats of the Balkans, – throwing jabs at PM Rama, – shouldn’t have the courage to put the blame on the EU.
“Corrupt Balkan autocrats have the audacity to pin the blame for lack of progress on the EU, instead of their own terrible blows to democracy & rule of law. Speaking out loud & acting against autocracy is the only way to protect democracy and the EU aspirations of the people of WB,” wrote Basha.
“There was a time….when EU officials like Reinhard Priebe spoke out on Balkan’s autocrats’ transgressions on Democracy and Rule of Law, and Balkan Prime Ministers and their cohorts shivered, reflected or were voted out. It seems for the moment the tables have turned,” he further adds.
During today’s conference in Ohrid, the head of state called for greater collaboration amongst the countries of the region, so that they don’t get held hostage by the decision-making process of the EU and other older conflicts.
While bringing existing conflicts in the region to attention, like the one amongst Kosovo and Serbia, the prime minister said that this conflict shouldn’t impede other countries in the region from cooperating and moving forward.
