Prime Minister Edi Rama gave an interview to the Greek media ERT, in which he spoke again about the case of Himarë and the arrest of Fredi Beleri.
Rama said that Beleri will answer to justice equally like every citizen of the Republic of Albania.
According to Rama, there cannot be two justices, one justice for Albanian citizens of Albanian nationality and another for Albanian citizens of Greek nationality.
“The gentleman is a citizen of the Republic of Albania, who must be equal before the law like every citizen of the Republic of Albania, but at the same time he must answer to the law like every citizen of the Republic of Albania and there cannot be two justices, one justice for Albanian citizens of Albanian nationality and another for Albanian citizens of Greek nationality. There is only one justice and if this justice is not perfect, it is not perfect for everyone”, said Rama.
Asked if Beleri’s detention is being deliberately prolonged by the Albanian government so that he is not sworn in as the elected mayor of Himarë, Rama denies this while stating that the government does not interfere in the affairs of Special Anti-Corruption Structure. In this regard, he brought as an example the fact that many high-ranking officials, part of the SP, are wanted and detained by the Special Prosecutor’s Office.
“Today, my former deputy is being wanted. There are 4 or 5 mayors of the Socialist Party who are in custody, awaiting trial for the same reason: the will of this justice to strike without looking at what color it is, who it is close to or who it is hurting from the point of view politically or from a financial point of view”, said Rama.
