Accompanied by his supporters and lawyer, Genc Gjokutaj, the Democratic Party leader, Sali Berisha, appeared at SPAK on Monday morning in compliance with the security measure of “obligation to appear.”

In a statement to the media, Berisha emphasized that SPAK is the prosecution office of the state, not of any individual. According to him, for every neglected case file, there will be accountability before the law.

“Troplini received a final answer: his mandate ends in December, and he will leave as head of this institution like a putschist who dragged it into crime, who slept over criminal case files, and I guarantee that for each of them he will face the law. This prosecution office belongs to the state and not to any individual. And he will face the law,” Berisha declared.

During his remarks, Berisha praised the recent stance of the U.S. Department of State regarding the end of the SPAK chief’s mandate.

“I greatly appreciate the new position of the U.S. Department of State, expressed by the representative of this country in Tirana, that his mandate ends and that this requires no further comment. Previously, there had been a different stance. And I guarantee the State Department that this new position is a true help in the fight against crime and drug cartels in Albania,” the DP leader concluded.
