During his next meeting in Elbasan part of the ‘Pulpit’ tour, former PM Sali Berisha declared that he is willing to return and be reinstated as the leader of the Democratic Party.

DP’s historic leader also noted that after his last withdrawal from political life in 2013, he is now ready once again, to take on official duties if citizens are willing to vote him into office again.

“What’s my aim? My aim is to give you the chance to vote for your leader. Whoever you’ll choose, I’ll accept. Am I open? Yes, I’m completely open. History has shown that my comebacks have been very productive. From now on, I’ll be open to taking on any function decreed by the country’s constitution,” – stated Berisha.

In addition, the former DP leader told his supporters in Elbasan that Basha had previously asked him to renounce his parliamentary mandate.

“One day, he came up and asked me to give up my mandate. I told him that my mandate is a matter of the people’s sovereignty. I can’t even image how someone can decide about who enters Parliament and who doesn’t. That’s how the threats began, but I never gave up,” – said Berisha.

Berisha deemed the decision to oust him from DP’s parliamentary group an “act of treason” and underlined that he would have accepted this verdict, only if it came as a result of an open vote from the party’s National Council.

“If he had called the National Council and organized a vote, I would have accepted any final decision, without a single doubt. But Basha stepped on the sovereignty of our political force,” – added Berisha.
