Berisha’s expulsion, Acka: Basha carried all the weight so he wouldn’t ‘infect’ all democrats

Flutura Acka is head of the Commission of Appeals that could be deciding the fate of the case brought by Berisha against Basha’s recent decision to temporarily oust him from the party’s parliamentary group, as a result of his ongoing legal disputes with the US Department of State that declared Berisha persona non grata last spring.

During an interview with Euronews Albania, Acka claimed that she considered Berisha’s expulsion, a radical and delicate decision that was made last minute.

She emphasized that the current leader of the Democratic Party, Lulzim Basha, carried the entire weight of this difficult decision by himself because if he would’ve allowed all democrats to be involved, the process would have been subject to the outer influence of all regular party members.

“I’ve tried to understand why Mr. Basha kept this decision to himself. He had to, because otherwise, had we all become part of the process, we would have gotten involved, and in a way we “would have gotten infected” and started to influence other regular democrats as well,” – she argued.

If the case does end up depending on her, Acka said that she will be faced with a very difficult choice, because from the outside, she claimed that she had always deeply admired Berisha’s figure, but within the political spectrum, she will have to make a judgment.

“I don’t know which route Mr. Berisha will choose to follow because until now, he has been publically vocal about everything. What I can tell you, however, is that if this will be up to the commission that I direct, everything will be transparent and we will respect every democrat, every adherent and the process itself,” – declared Acka.
