Albania has faced a frightening increase in asylum requests throughout 2023.

The latest INSTAT report reveals that from one year to the next, we have more than doubled the number of asylum seekers in Albania.

Referring to the figures obtained from the Border and Migration Department, under the General Directorate of the State Police, in 2023, there are 261 asylum seekers, from 125 in 2022.

What stands out is that the number of asylum seekers from Afghanistan in 2023 is even higher than the total number of all asylum seekers who came in 2022.

Asylum seekers originating from Afghanistan make up 61.7% of the total number of asylum seekers in the past year.

After Afghanistan, asylum seekers come from Syria and then those from Iraq.

Looking at the requests for asylum by month, it can be seen that the largest applications are in the months of March and September

Also October which make up 46.0% of the total applications.
