The United Kingdom’s Ambassador to Kosovo, Jonathan Hargreaves, has stated that once the electoral process is completed, Kosovo needs to establish its new institutions as quickly as possible and ensure political stability.

Speaking to KosovaPress while observing the election process in Zubin Potok, Hargreaves said that he is part of the diplomatic observation mission coordinated by the European Union, known as “Diplo Watch,” which is monitoring the elections across Kosovo.

He praised both the electoral process and the staff working at polling stations.

“Our job is to ensure that we have a clear picture of what is happening throughout Kosovo. The people at the polling stations have been very helpful and welcoming. I would like to congratulate them and everyone involved in ensuring that these elections run smoothly,” Hargreaves said.

When asked whether he expects these to be the last elections for the next four years, the British ambassador responded that this is a hope shared by many people in Kosovo.

“I have the impression that many people in this country hope these will be the last elections this year. If it becomes necessary to hold elections again, then that will happen. However, it would be very positive if, following these elections, political parties could reach an agreement not only on the parliament and the government, but also on the election of the president,” he stated.

According to Hargreaves, it is in Kosovo’s best interest for the new institutions to be established without delay.

“It is entirely up to the political parties to resolve these matters among themselves. I believe Kosovo needs a parliament, a government, and a president as soon as possible, while it is for the parties to determine the order and outcome of that process,” the British ambassador said.

Hargreaves’ remarks come as Kosovo continues its electoral process under close observation by both domestic and international monitoring missions, with attention focused on the formation of stable institutions once the final results are confirmed.
