British MP Alec Shelbrooke praises DP model for the selection of members of parliament

British conservative politician and member of parliament since 2010 Alec Shelbrook, has praised the internal electoral process chosen by the Democratic Party to select candidates for MPs and mayors in the upcoming elections. 

In a recent announcement of DP’s press office, Shelbrooke was one of the main contributors to this process, who together with the Westminster Foundation provided advice for the progress and development of one of the process, hailed as crucial by the democrats.  

The Westminster Foundation also saluted the creation of the Committee on Candidate Selection within the Democratic Party.

In an Twitter post, the foundation says it is proud for launching such an important initiative for a political party, whilst they believe that the other parties and region will soon follow suit.

“The Democratic Party in Albania announced yesterday that they are creating a Committee for the Selection of Candidates, inspired by the model of the Conservative Party. The establishment of this new body in the party structure is an import step to secure that the selection of the candidates is transparent, competitive and meritocratic. We are proud to have inspired and supported this initiative. This development in crucial for Albania. It is the first initiative of this type and it clears the way for other political parties in the region to follow suit”, said Evelina Demchenko, International Programme Manager at the Conservative Party International Department.
