The tripartite meeting on the dinar issue in Brussels has ended.
Kosovo and Serbia have completed another round of talks, without achieving progress on the issue of the Serbian dinar, the use of which was banned on February 1 in Kosovo. Kosovo’s chief negotiator, Besnik Bislimi, said that the differences are big and an additional meeting is required, while Serbia’s chief negotiator, Petar Petkovic, criticized Pristina for not making efforts to reach a compromise solution.
After the meetings, the European bloc announced a new meeting next week on the issue.
Bislimi, after the meeting with Petkovic under the mediation of the European Union, said that the parties’ proposals on the issue of the dinar have been discussed.
“It was seen that there is a big difference between the proposals of both parties and we agreed that, after several talks, there is a need for another meeting, to see if there is a possibility to come closer to a solution or not. I think that our side has issued a very constructive proposal that enables financial support to go to end users, but without injuring at any moment the regulations of the Central Bank of Kosovo and the legislative framework of our country” said Bislimi.
But Serbia’s chief negotiator, Petar Petkovic, said that Pristina’s proposal does not lead to a compromise solution.
“We have presented our proposal, Pristina has presented its proposal. Our proposal is balanced, takes into account the interests of the Serbian people in Kosovo and was made in agreement with our experts.
On the other hand, you have the proposal of Pristina, which I would not like to talk about now, suffice it to say that on the other hand they did not even make the slightest attempt that that letter can be called a proposal, which goes in the direction of a compromise solutions,” said Petkovic.
“That’s what worries me a lot. I don’t know in which direction the dialogue will go. I am concerned about the position and the future of the Serbian people in Kosovo when you see that there is no political will on the other side to reach a solution”, added Petkovic.
Serbia’s chief negotiator said Belgrade will continue talks to reach a solution to the issue, as he announced the next meeting for April.
