The event where some Italian tourists ran to avoid paying the bill at a business in Berat continues to evoke reactions. This event happened at the time when Italian Prime Minister Georgia Meloni decided to spend a few days in Albania, to rest and hold some informal meetings.
When she learned about the incident in Berat, she decided to pay the bill for the tourists of the state she represents herself, as she said she could not allow such a shame. The business owners in Berat said that the Italian tourists unwittingly became a very big advertisement, adding that they will keep the money given by Meloni in the bar as a symbol to protect them from the evil eye.
“The Italian citizens who left without paying have made a big advertisement for our city. Let’s thank them for that. We told that it was no problem, that the Italians here are at home, many of them come here just like our family when we immigrated to Italy.
We also said that they liked the food. We hope that they spend that money on something good. We sincerely thank Giorgia Meloni. We are not rich, we work hard as a family. But this is not a question of money and we are emocional by her gesture.
A wonderful example of dignity. We love her very much and as half-Italians that we are, she honored us by coming on vacation to Vlora. The money will stay here in the restaurant as an extraordinary memory and against the evil eye”, they write.
