Legal businesses in Albania recorded a 5% increase compared to the previous year. According to their profile, out of a total of 250,000 entities, nearly half are farmers.
The number of legal businesses in Albania grew by 5% compared to the previous year, reaching a total of 250,100 active entities by the end of 2025.
This expansion was driven by the growth in the number of active farmers, which reached 112,200, marking a 6% increase, as well as active economic enterprises, which grew by 4% to 137,900.
During the year, 18,300 new enterprises were registered, showing stronger performance than in 2024, when 16,000 new businesses were registered. In addition, the register of local units expanded by 4%, reaching 146,500 active units.
The vast majority of active enterprises in the country, specifically 86%, operate in the service-producing sectors such as trade, transportation, accommodation, and information services. These sectors also account for the largest share of net sales, generating 68% of the total.
On the other hand, the goods-producing sectors, including agriculture, industry, and construction, represent 14% of enterprises and generate 32% of net sales.
Regarding ownership and management profiles, enterprises with foreign owners or co-owners account for 5% of the total and provide employment for 13% of all employees in the country.
A positive development is also evident in gender representation, with women managing or owning 32% of all active enterprises, a slight increase from 31% in 2024.
The highest female participation in decision-making was recorded in other service activities (41%) and trade (34%), mainly involving small businesses with 1 to 4 employees.
Meanwhile, in terms of economic impact by business size, large enterprises with 50 or more employees, although representing only 2% of the total number of enterprises in Albania, play a critical role in the economy. They employ nearly half of the workforce (49%) and generate 45% of the country’s total annual sales volume.
