Albania has a big problem in the labor market, which is the failure to declare the full salary to the bank and the employees who do not report this problem.

Everyone has the right to protest on May 1, people who work and are paid illegally or receive half of the salary from the business and half in the bank. Also even those employees who have not signed a contract, but work with extended hours, have the same right to protest.

If these citizens would come out to protest, other citizens would show solidarity with them, the informality at work could decrease, the dignity of the worker would increase and businesses would change the way they act related to their workers.

In Albania, there are no exact statistics of violations at work, but there are data that evidence them. For example, a government document shows that informal employment in the non-agricultural sector was 29% in 2021. For this reason, taxes have sent letters to 10,000 businesses last year to adjust the declarations for the salaries of employees, which include lecturers, engineers, doctors and minimum wage journalists. And they do not denounce this phenomenon.

Safety at work is not guaranteed by companies for difficult jobs, in 2022 alone, 184 accidents occurred, and 32 employees lost their lives in the workplace.
